THE CHILDREN’S MUSIC CENTRE was set up in May 2000 by Karen Jones whose innovative and pioneering ideas in music and arts education have been enjoyed by many children and schools world-wide. The Centre is one of the projects established under the auspices of Folkist, the umbrella organisation set up in 1999 by Karen and Michael Rintoul.

After gaining her teaching degree in New Zealand at a young age, Karen headed the music department for five years in an inner city primary school, as well as teaching her normal class full time.

Upon arriving in Britain she has successfully continued her music and work, which expanded to teaching a wider range of students, including adults and children with special learning needs in East London and in Scotland.

Up until then, thirteen years of study, practical research and application resulted in THE CHILDREN’S MUSIC CENTRE, a project dedicated to the development and value of the creative learning approach in education, with a view to holistically strengthening artistic ability, inner balance, self worth, confidence, self esteem and ultimately, a better quality of life.

Creative learning is the way forward, and, promoting a positive self image through the freedom of creative expression, promotes a healthier, less stressful, more productive and happier life style, both now and in all future endeavours.

THE CHILDREN’S MUSIC CENTRE has been set up first and foremost for children. The music classes provided are designed for children to ENJOY music, to have fun while learning music skills with the belief that music has got to be a positive experience for kids in order for true learning to take place.
